Wow. Again.

I dropped Ainsley off at Menike's today with a hot pink princess tea set spoon in her hand. WHen I picked her up this afternoon, guess what was in her hand? A hot pink princess tea set spoon. Menike said she held onto it all day. She took it outside. She took it to naptime. Apparently she dropped it during her nap, but remembered it after and demanded Menike go back for it. Wow.

I sat Ainsley on the kitchen counter when we got home, and she helped herself to some clementine's. I helped her peel them, and showed her how to eat it. She ate 3 of them. She's 1 now. She's allowed. Tomorrow we are going to try peanut butter.

On the subject of food, we received our supply of Abra fundraiser items. After checking the ingredients on the Cheesy Mac, I am more excited about the Mom Made Foods than the kiwi pies! Ainsley eats a pretty wide variety of foods, but I want to do my best to load her and her brother up on healthy items. We've also started eating from Diet-to-go. It's pretty cheap, the food tastes great, and we don't have to prepare ANYTHING. Kevin and I get lunch and dinner, and I get dinners for the kids to share. We're by no means counting their calories, but it is important to us that they eat what we eat, and the food is healthy....lots of fish and vegetables and whole grains.

Ainsley is also cruising around these days. She likes to stand, she likes mommy to carry her, and she likes to swing at the playground. She likes her big pink stuffed dog, and if you say "Awwww, doggie!" she puts her head down and cuddles! She is also trying to say "Moi" when you kiss her :-)

Ainsley weighs in at 20.6.6 pounds, which is 35th%.
Her height is 27 1/2 ", which is 10th% and has her following in my footsteps.
Her head, however, is 18" which is 70%. I referenced her brothers head and Dr. Hopper said we could expect very smart kids!

How did Harry fare after his first trip around the sun? Here's an exerpt from Harry's World, circa 2005:
Harry had his 1 year check up on the 25th. He weighed in at 24# 10 oz. I think
he is 29 1/2 inches. Does that sound right? I lost the paper from the doctor's.
I copied it to send to daycare, but then I don't know what happened to the
original. I probably mailed it to a site. I remember, though, that his head is
in the 90 percentile. Surprising that is all, since his bike helmut is well
beyond toddler-sized.

Wow!

I was all set to post a couple of updates, but Kevin beat me to it! Ah! Who would have thought?

I guess I'll have some stats Thursday after Ainsley's 1 year check up, but here are some updates to tide you over (yeah you! You know who you are!).

Name: Ainsley Mae McDermott
Age: 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eyes: Possibly brown. Maybe hazel.
Hair: Golden/honey blond, style: mullet
Clothing size: 12 months
Shoe size: about 6 months! itty bitty feet! No wonder she's not walking!

Ainsley is standing though, and holding objects while she does it. Objects fascinate her. Harry doesn't seem to understand this.
Things she likes: squishing the eyes on her Itty Bitty Baby, bubbles at The Little Gym, Mommy, slamming her sippy cup off of her high chair, when big brother makes her giggle, Menike, dancing, reading books and trying to touch the pictures, feeding herself with a spoon, gnawing on spoons, talking, talking, talking. Oh, and Mommy.

She doesn't enunciate, but she gets enough words out to communicate. Mama. DaDaDaDaDa.
Do(g). Brother. Pretty. Bye....she tends to repeat the last word you say, if you say it enough.

Future events: Folly Beach in April, Jimmy Buffet in September, more DG playdates then she knows what to do with!

Where'd the year go?

Like Deja Vu all over again...

It really seems like last week that Grandma and Meghan were in town... only last time it was to help out with Harry & Bailey while Kim and I headed over to the hospital to bring home Harry's new little sister.

This time it was to celebrate Ainsley Mae's big first Solar lap. It's been kind of crazy that a whole year has gone by. This time last year, I was easing myself into a new role at a new job with a new company. I was getting used to going to work by train every day, Harry was eagerly awaiting his sister, with I'm sure little understanding of what was to come next.

So here we are, and I'm easing into a new role at a new job with the same company, getting used to driving to work every day again, only this time in a "new" set of wheels (yes I've succumbed to the realm of the minivan...). Harry now eagerly awaits heading to pick up his sister after school, with clear expectations of how the afernoon should progress.

Ainsley, however, is about as easy-going as they come. She's loving her own new experiences like the Little Gym, doing her best to start standing on her own (I see a few steps in the near future), and a quick painless transition off of bottles and formula!

Now granted she's got her own little funks lately like repeatedly tossing her sippy cups overboard during dinner, and really preferring Mommy holding her over just about anyone else.

Although we've got just as much (if not more) photographic evidence of everything we've done over the last year, including plenty of FBF outings, several road trips (even Ainsley's first to Folly Beach shortly after her arrival), it's all been quite a blur.

Can't wait to see what next year brings!!!

A little birdie told me....

Ainsley told me that if you insist on buying her a toy for her birthday, her favorites are from Melissa & Doug...and they have great new toddler toys...worth more than their weight in batteries!
